About ELEC

 

The European League for Economic Cooperation was founded in 1946. It is an independent network of business people with significant expertise and influence who are committed to deepen European integration by putting timely intellectual pressure on European decision makers.

 

The conference in Bucharest is organized by ELEC Romania and the National Bank of Romania.

 

About the theme

 

  • Could reforms in Eastern European Member States and in the EMU converge to pave the way for their accession to the euro?
  • How can the European Fund for Strategic Investments (Juncker Plan) overcome the gloom in the European Union? What opportunities does it bring to the Eastern European Member States?
  • Strategy for economic growth and job creation: the role of new financial instruments 2014-2020 under the European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF): are the Eastern European Member States making good use of the financing opportunities to enhance their resilience?
  • Capital markets and private pension funds in Eastern European Member States: how can we put local retail savings at work, improve the functioning of local financial markets and make fixed income markets more attractive to retail investors?
  • Possible initiatives/contributions of the Bulgarian/Austrian and Romanian EU Presidencies to the current economic, migration and security challenges faced by the EU. How should Bulgarian-Romanian cooperation work in a broader regional cooperation context?
