Andrei Dudoiu: 🚀 Startup governance – A growth engine, not a burden

„Governance” – not exactly a word that gets founders excited, right? It sounds like something from a corporate boardroom, not a startup’s playbook. But here’s what building and investing in startups has taught me: it’s actually your secret weapon for faster growth and better decisions.

✅ Leverage investor networks—including smaller investors.
One of the most brilliant moves I’ve seen came from a founder who turned their crowdfunding investors into a business development army. During an online update, they specifically asked for enterprise client introductions. Result? Three solid leads within days, and their first major corporate contract a month later. OK, not everyone will get the same results, but you never know until you try. One thing is for sure: Even small investors can open massive doors when you engage them strategically.

✅ The expensive „Figure It Out Later” approach
A painful but powerful lesson… I watched a thriving SaaS startup miss out on a perfect acquisition offer because they hadn’t aligned on decision-making with investors. By the time they sorted out who could approve what, the opportunity vanished. Clear rules aren’t bureaucracy – they’re business enablement.

✅ Making board meetings work for YOU, the startup
The best transformation I’ve seen? A founder who flipped their board meetings from number-crunching sessions into strategic workshops. Instead of just reviewing metrics, they tackled growth challenges head-on. More brains are better than one. One such session led to a partnership that doubled their market reach. Your board should be your brain trust, not your burden.

✅ When transparency saves companies
Tale of two founders: One hid problems until their runway was critical – too late for meaningful help. Another flagged challenges early, enabling their board to arrange bridge funding and make game-changing introductions. Same challenge, drastically different outcomes. The difference? Trust built through open communication.

Here’s what I’ve learned: Great governance isn’t about control or compliance – it’s about building the foundation that lets you move faster and grow bigger.
What’s your experience? Has governance (even if you call it something else) made or broken a startup’s trajectory in your world?
