I proudly participated as a moderator and speaker in two of the AI EXPO EUROPE 2025 panels: Future of Universities: Will AI Redefine Higher Education? & AI & Human Perception: Shaping Reality in the Age of Algorithms.
I do believe in the near future, nobody will know in an University who is teaching and who is learning. The universities, as institutions which taught humanity how to think, will become growing spirals of knowledge, where professors are mentors of cognition, students are curators of meaning and learning is a lifelong symbiosis between minds, memories and creativity.
Reality is, after all, a social construct.
Kant reminded us that we cannot know the world as it is in itself (an sich) but only as it appears to us (für sich). What artificial intelligence adds to this Kantian tension is a new layer of mediation: the algorithm as a filter between the world and our perception of it. AI does not simply show us reality; it begins to shape the way reality is unveiled to us.
The more we delegate perception to algorithms, the more our sense of truth becomes algorithmically constructed. What we see, what we read, what we believe, all can be curated through invisible systems of prediction. Then, we no longer inhabit the same public space of knowledge; each of us lives inside a personalized epistemology, a tailor-made truth.
In classical philosophy, the mind was considered the active faculty that organized experience. Today, the algorithm can organize experience for the mind. In this scenario, we no longer synthesize the world; the world is pre-synthesized for us. Socrates might ask, if he were here: Do we still think, or are we merely being thought?
