🇷🇴The presidential elections in Romania, in which a 🇨🇳TikTok-enabled politician, backed by nothing but 5.000 TikTok accounts created in the last two weeks of the electoral campaign, shall represent a warning signal for all of us. At a minimum, we should be aware of the complex interdependencies that China has on our critical infrastructures, and plan a robust Euro-Atlantic response to increase our resilience.

▶️The strategic importance of the Black Sea region was elevated in the context of the war in Ukraine, but thinking that Russia is the only challenge here would be naive. Drawing insights from Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, I argue how our region has the potential to become a great power competition laboratory, and propose some solutions for limiting Beijing’s footprint in the region.
