Gruia Bumbu – Human Rights Abroad and Lessons Learned from the U.S. Civil Rights Movement
Gruia Bumbu is a confirmed speaker for 2015 Global Ties U.S. National Meeting in the Human Rights Abroad and Lessons Learned from the U.S. Civil Rights Movement panel.
The event will take place in Washington DC, Wednesday, February 4, 2015 – Saturday, February 7, 2015.
A key priority for U.S. foreign policy around the world is to support democratic institutions and protect human rights, and many IVLP projects support these objectives. Organizers of projects on these topics can benefit from an understanding of U.S. history and our civil rights challenges. This knowledge can be used to establish common ground with visitors facing human rights challenges in their own countries. A panel of speakers will survey U.S. civil rights history and examine efforts to heal wounds and promote reconciliation, both in the U.S. and around the world. The panel will also address the State Department’s efforts to promote civil and human rights movements worldwide.
