🔥🧬✨ Reflections on Today’s Fireside Chat: „Can We Cure Cancer in the 21st Century?” ✨🧬🔥

Today, I had the opportunity to be the featured speaker at the HIT Konferencija 2023 fireside chat, where we explored the burning question: „Can We Cure Cancer in the 21st Century?” Focusing on Central and Eastern Europe, we discussed strategies and challenges specific to the region.

During our conversation, I expressed my perspective that, with the right approach and collaboration, we have the potential to cure cancer as we know it within the 21st century. Our efforts should focus on two pivotal perspectives:

1️⃣ Improving access to timely pevention, early detection, screening, diagnostics and treatment: By transforming our health systems in Central and Eastern Europe into learning healthcare systems, we can facilitate early detection, more effective preventive interventions, and continuous improvement of diagnostic, care and QoL. It is essential to harness the power of data and technology to streamline both prevention and patient care and reduce disparities in access to high-quality interventions across the region.

2️⃣ Better understanding of the disease: As we continue to unravel the complexities of cancer, new prevention and screening strategies will emerge, tailored to individuals based on genomics and data analytics. Personalized medicine, a cornerstone of this approach, will help medical professionals develop personalised prevention and screening models, advanced diagnostics and targeted therapies and treatment plans based on each patient’s unique genetic makeup, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Our collective efforts to cure cancer in the 21st century, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, rely on a multifaceted approach that combines health system transformation, innovation and scientific advancements, and collaboration across disciplines. I am optimistic that, as we work together, we will make significant strides in conquering this disease.
