The AmCham Romania event today – Behind the Schedule in the Fight Against Cancer – was aimed at offering a multistakeholder dialogue platform for discussing what are the next steps toward the implementation of the National Plan for Cancer Control adopted by the Romanian Parliament last November.

The policy panel was followed by a session that brought to attention the implementation of screening programs financed through EU programs. Major challenges, lessons learned, and perspectives going forward were shared by

• Dr. Florian Nicula, Institutul Oncologic Prof. Dr. I Chiricuță Cluj-Napoca,

• Dr. Carp Eduard, Institutul Național de Oncologie Iași,

• Dr. Călin Popovici, Institutul Oncologic București

• Prof. Dr. Mircea Manuc, Institutul Clinic Fundeni

• Luminița Vâlcea, COPAC Executive Director.

Among the greatest challenges speakers mentioned was the reluctance of the population to participate in screening programs, for which joint efforts for health prevention education are needed, inequalities in access to health services and screening (rural vs. urban), or shortage of healthcare specialists needed to cover the wide gap.

On #AmCham’s behalf, the discussions were opened & and moderated by Vlad Boeriu, AmCham Health Committee Chair, Georgiana Cosoveanu, Deputy Chair AmCham Health Committee and Raluca Simbotin, Leader of the Cancer TF within the AmCham Health Committee.

AmCham called for an increased focus on the implementation of the National Plan to Control Cancer and reiterated availability to be part of the joint effort to make it work for Romanian patients.
